Adjusting student loan interest rates is not going to make college more affordable. If you were concerned about college affordability, you would be making issues out of the things that matter.
Interest on Stafford Loans might go from 3.4% to 6.8%? Last year the rate was 4.5%. The year before that it was 5.8%. The student debt problem has only gotten worse.
Less importantly, Senate Republicans didn’t vote to double interest rates. They voted against the bill, because it proposed raising taxes on small business owners to pay for the lower Stafford Loan rates.
Thankfully, we don’t have to rely on politicians to fix our education system.
